How to Heal Shame and Work with Your Shadow

"The problem of secret stories surrounded by shame is that they cut a woman off from her instinctive nature.  ...draw out the secret, for it makes a wound that will not heal until the matter is given words and witness." ~  Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

"The body can encapsulate and isolate the effects of trauma for years, but doing so requires a lot of energy." ~ The Other Medicine That Really Works

If you are a highly sensitive person, an empath, and/or a lightworker.... likely you are experiencing ascension symptoms as you upgrade to higher frequency energy. This is happening to all of us who feel called to make the world a better place.  Because these upgrades in your energy systems facilitate and actualize your life purpose.

As we grow, evolve and ascend, we can become aware of what we have repressed and hidden in the shadow, namely that which causes us to feel shame.

The Energetic Frequency of Shame

According to the "Scale of Human Consciousness" (page 25 of Awaken Your Greater Health), which was derived from Power Vs Force by David Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D.,  shame has the lowest vibration of all consciousness states. On a scale of 0 to 1,000, with 200 and above being within the frequency of empowerment, shame vibrates at 20! It is a vibration that is incompatible with health. Some of the sickest clients I have ever worked with vibrated predominantly in shame.

The feeling of being at such a low frequency is just plain awful.  It makes us feel bad about ourselves and broken. It can make us feel raw, vulnerable, exposed, and angry. It can make us want to crawl in a hole. The feeling of shame is almost unbearable. And we will do just about anything to avoid it.

To keep from feeling it, we will hide it from our consciousness and encapsulate it in an energy "cyst." But keeping the energy of shame encapsulated is exhausting. And it makes it difficult to heal. Because when it is hidden from our consciousness, it becomes a secret.

Keeping a secret hidden takes a toll. The energy cyst creates energetic disruption, like a boulder in the middle of a stream disrupts the flow of water. Even if we are unaware of what is in the shadow, we feel the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual symptoms of energetic disruption:
  • feeling tired or exhausted
  • feeing disconnected and alone
  • pain or discomfort
  • tension or tightness
  • Feeling triggered with negative emotions like anxiety, anger, sadness
  • repetitive negative thoughts
  • health issues
The Woman with Hair of Gold

To understand the nature of healing shame, let's take a look at the archetypal story of the The Woman with Hair of Gold, which you can read in Women Who Run With the Wolves. This is a story of a woman with hair like spun gold who lived alone in the woods. When a local brute tried to coerce her into marriage, she appeased him by giving him some of her hair. But when he tried to use the hair as currency in the marketplace, the locals ridiculed him. In a rage, the man killed the woman and buried her body near a river.

Although no one noticed her passing, her hair continued to grow even after her death. It came up through the ground in beautiful spiraling curls, eventually creating a field of golden reeds. The shepherds cut the reeds, making them into flutes. With the flutes they sang about the woman with the golden hair who was murdered and buried there. And because they sang the truth, her murderer was brought to justice and safety was restored.

As in all symbolic stories, a well as our nighttime dreams, every aspect of the story represents a part of us:
    • The marketplace locals represent the situations that trigger a feeling of shame.
    • The brute is the part of us that feels rage for being shamed.
    • The hair represents our spirit, the part that can never die. Even when we have been silenced and our energy disrupted, our spirit remains untouched at our core.
    • The appeasement represents how we barter our life force by giving away our energy to people please
    • The murder represents how we kill off our vitality when we hide and bury our shame. It also symbolizes the silencing of ourselves and the divine feminine.
    • The absence of inquiry after the woman's disappearance represents our unconsciousness in hiding our secret shame. When we bury our shame, it becomes hidden from our consciousness and we are unaware of its existence. Therefore we do not inquire about it.
    • The lack of inquiry about the woman's disappearance also represents the devaluing of the divine feminine. It symbolizes the diminishment and marginalization of women in a society where they are seen as expendable.  We internalize this by devaluing ourselves.
    • The hair turning into reeds represents our transformation from one state of being to another.
    • The reeds becoming flutes represent the part of us that transforms and becomes a vehicle for expression. The reeds becoming flutes are the part of us that has a voice to speak the truth.
    • The justice represents the restoration of our balance and harmony when the shameful secret is voiced.

    Shadow Work

To begin to heal shame, we need to raise our energetic frequency from 20 to 200. On the Scale of Human Consciousness, 200 represents the threshold of empowerment. It is also the frequency of courage. To heal, we need to find the courage to shine a light on the hidden shame and look at it. To heal we need the courage to express what we find in the shadow.  In the shadow is what we have disowned, what we believe is unacceptable...what we have hidden in the darkness. We know it’s there because of the triggers.

Upon finding courage to look below the surface at what is causing the triggers, we can take ourselves to even higher energetic frequencies by unconditionally loving and accepting ourselves.  On the Scale of Human Consciousness, acceptance has a frequency of 350, and love has a frequency of 500.

You do NOT have to accept the shame, or the circumstances surrounding the shame. Simply accept YOU. You are not your shame. You are an acceptable person experiencing unacceptable shame. This is a very important distinction. By accepting YOU, even in a state of shame, you raise your energetic frequency from 20 to 350! By loving YOU, even in a state of shame, you raise your energetic frequency from 20 to 500!

    Healing Affirmations

Here are some healing affirmations to say out loud to help you heal shame and what is in your shadow.

Even though I am experiencing shame, I have the courage to take a deep breathe and voice what I'm ashamed about, even if only to myself.

Even though I find my shame and the circumstances around the shame unacceptable,  I am always an acceptable person.

Even though I am experiencing shame, I send unconditional love to the part of me that is feeling ashamed.

    The Spiritual Meaning of Butterfly

"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve such beauty." ~ Maya Angelou, Phenomenal Women : Four Poems Celebrating Women

Several years ago I watched a documentary about the endangered Monarch butterflies and the 1976 discovery of the Mexico to U.S. migration route. Monarchs will only lay their eggs on milkweed because it is the ONLY food that monarch larvae will eat. So we can help the Monarch by planting native milkweed along their migration route. Although no one knows for sure if planting milkweed actually helps the species, I felt inspired to try.

I ordered a package of milkweed seeds online to start a milkweed patch in my backyard. But I had no idea how difficult it is to grow milkweed from seeds! Or how much patience this process would require. (You can avoid this issue by purchasing milkweed plants in the spring from a local nursery!)

After keeping the seed packet in the fridge all winter,  I started 100 seeds indoors in the spring. But only a dozen sprouted.  I transplanted the sprouts near a butterfly bush. The flowers on the bush would provide food for any butterflies who came to lay eggs, or who were born in my garden.

Although Monarch butterflies have chemical receptors in their antenna that can detect milkweed from miles away, none found my plants. When cold weather set in that fall, the milkweed died back and I assumed that was the end of my Monarch Butterfly Project.

    Patience Pays Off

The next spring I was surprised to see milkweed springing up where I had planted them the year prior.

I began checking the milkweed leaves for eggs.  I never saw any. But one day in late summer, there was a caterpillar!

He must have been chomping away on those leaves for weeks, undetected. Because the very next day I saw him hanging from one end, motionless. Was he dead? I went back to the garden a few hours later and was awed to see the transformation.

The larva, or caterpillar was now a pupa, or chrysalis. About two weeks after the caterpillar became a pupa, a butterfly emerged from the pupa. Nearly two years after watching that documentary, a Monarch began a new life among the milkweed I had started.

    The Meaning of Butterfly

Everything unfolds in divine timing, even when it doesn't feel like it is. That's not just a euphemism. It's a belief that's been validated over and over in my life. And it's a belief that creates a free flow of energy, because it is aligned with universal truth.

Even though it seemed like it took forever for a butterfly to lay an egg in my backyard, it was perfect timing. It was a message that an internal process every bit as awe-inspiring as the metamorphosis of the butterfly was taking place...a message I really needed at that time.

When we go through these deep transformations, they can feel like anything but. It can feel like nothing is changing, or you're exhausted and up against a wall, or overwhelmed and over-run with high emotions.  It can feel like pretty much anything, much of which may be unexpected. And what it feels like can keep changing.

I imagine what it must be like for that caterpillar, to be voraciously eating those milkweed leaves and find herself slowing down to a standstill...her body taken over by the metamorphosis process. And all she can do is surrender to that process. I imagine her going into the darkness of the chrysalis, and surrendering even more. Maybe she thinks she has died. Indeed, transformation does require a death. It is the death of the old and the outgrown that must take place for us to become who we are meant to be.

I can imagine what a shock it would be to be for a caterpillar to wake up one day and discover itself completely transformed with the ability to fly. If you are going through a difficult transformational experience, I'm sure waking up one day to find yourself utterly changed and your soul soaring would be shocking as well. That change may be entirely internal, or it could be change that extends to your outer life as well.

(butterfly from my garden on my shoulder)

    Symbol of Transformation

The amazing lifecycle of a butterfly is what makes it such a powerful symbol of transformation. But the butterfly doesn't initiate the transformation, or control it. When the time is right, it just happens. She could fight it and suffer. Or she can surrender to what is happening and let her old form of being die.

Like the monarch caterpillar, you may have been methodically living your life. And then things slow down. And you may feel confused, frightened, and wonder...what is happening to me? What is this process that is turning my life upside down?

If a butterfly flutters into your life, into your daytime visions or nighttime dreams, a rebirth is at hand. It's a signal that you are transitioning from an old life to a new life. It's a sign that you are ascending to a higher level of awakening. It's a symbol of transformation to higher levels of consciousness and higher energy states.  And although that transition may be unpleasant at times, be assured that it's all in your highest good.

Healing Sacred Symbolism: The Meaning of Crow, Snake and Spider

"When an animal or a symbol of that animal shows up to you in an unusual way or repeatedly, it's most definitely trying to convey a message from the spirit world to you."  ~ Steven D. Farmer, PhD., Animal Spirit Guides

Several times a week I see a social media post from someone frightened about a dream, vision, or life experience involving an animal -- usually a crow, snake or spider. They are frightened because they think this is a bad omen. And this belief is often affirmed by others in the comments.

These sacred animal symbols are spiritual signs that raise our energetic frequency and help us awaken to our higher self.  But when we have a fearful response, it has the opposite effect. Fear lowers our energetic frequency and blocks us from receiving the message. Let's take a look at why these symbols known as sacred to the ancients are now so frequently seen as negative.

    Disconnected from Ancient Wisdom

For 2,000 years, humans have lived in a culture of domination. In this abusive culture, our sacred symbols were subverted to inject fear into the population. Because a population in fear is disempowered and easier to control and dominate.  It's not just animal symbols that became negative under the influence of this culture of domination. The ancient divine feminine and divine masculine symbols were also changed to demonic in nature.

For example, Isis is an ancient Egyptian goddess symbolizing magic, fertility, motherhood, and rebirth. But the name ISIS has now been co-opted by a terrorist group. In another example, the ancients knew Medusa as the goddess of the sacred serpent. But her meaning was changed to a monster who had to be defeated by chopping her head off.

Manufacturing fear is a form of spiritual abuse that has disconnected us from our lineage of sacred symbols that communicate wisdom through the ages. We need to reconnect to receive the messages that empower us all.

Let's examine the three most commonly misunderstood sacred animal symbols that may appear in your nighttime dreams, your daytime visions, or in your life.

    The Meaning of Crow

A client once requested a session with me to help her process a terrifying incident with a crow. As she got into her car in a shopping center parking lot, a crow landed on the hood of her car. Because she had a belief that crows are ominous and a "bad" sign, she became frightened. The crow flew alongside the car as she drove away, cawing loudly. He repeatedly attempted to land on her sideview mirror and flapped his wings in front of her windshield. This sent her into a panic. Rather than recognizing that crow was delivering a message, she interpreted it as an attack.

When crow sensed she was not getting the message, he persisted by following her car. He had an important message to deliver.  And it's clear he took his mission seriously! Unfortunately this amazing experience was misinterpreted and experienced as terrifying. But perhaps that WAS the message. Crow may have been calling attention to her need to move beyond her fear of sacred animal symbolism.

Crows are one of the most intelligent species on Earth. They are thought to be as intelligent as a 7 year old human child. A crow can recognize faces and communicate information to other crows. They even use twigs as tools!

Fear of crows may originate in their ability to warn of danger. They will caw loudly to warn animals that a hunter is in the woods. And we may think that crow is warning us of death or danger if he appears in our dreams and visions. But crows are magical! Crow foretells of change and success coming regarding something that you have worked for. Crow caws to remind us to stay awake and aware so we can receive other signs that guide us. And crow signals us to let go of what no longer serves us.

Shortly after my daughter got married several years ago, I was watching the videotape of the outdoor ceremony when I noticed something unusual. During the exact moments that my husband was walking our daughter down the isle toward her groom, there were three distinct crow caws, with a pause after each one. The rest of the ceremony was silent. When I heard the crow caws in the recording, my eyes filled with tears. Crow had bestowed a blessing on my daughter's wedding day.

If crow shows up in your life or in your dreams or visions, know that a rebirth may be at hand. And whatever crow may be warning you about is something for your highest good!

    The Meaning of Snake

Another commonly misunderstood animal symbol is snake. Humans have a natural fear of snakes. Likely even looking at the picture below may make you uneasy! We all have this self-protective instinct, because a snake can potentially kill you - if venomous. But many snakes are harmless. And a snake that appears in your dreams or visions is mystical!

In Native American spirituality, "snake medicine" is very powerful medicine. It is the medicine that comes through initiation. The difficult circumstances of our lives are like snake bites. But through these snake bites we learn to transmute the "poison" of our challenging life circumstances. We learn this through a succession of death and rebirth cycles. In Awaken Your Greater Health I wrote, "In these cycles we let go and let die the aspects of the small self as we outgrow and shed them, just as the snake sheds its skin as it grows. Then we are reborn into greater states of health and well-being."

The appearance of snake in your life, visions or dreams may indicate you are a person with snake medicine. According to authors Jamie Sams and David Carson in Medicine Cards: The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals, "Snake medicine people are very rare. This is heavy magic, but remember, magic is no more than a change in consciousness."

Have you experienced a series of difficult and challenging life circumstances? These may have served as your spiritual initiation to higher levels of consciousness. And that higher level of consciousness may be required for you to fulfill your life purpose.

    The Meaning of Spider

Another animal we humans naturally fear are spiders. Like some species of snake, some spiders can indeed kill you. Although most are poisonous, many are no more harmful to a human than an insect bite. When spider appears in your life, dreams, or visions... it is not to scare you, but to deliver a wonderful message!

Spider symbolizes infinite creativity. Her body looks like a figure eight... the infinity symbol. Through spider we learn that creativity comes through balancing masculine and feminine, the past and the future, and the physical and spiritual. Spider is also associated with language, and the primordial letters and symbols that first formed language. Those who have spider medicine are able to weave magic with the written word.

The spider web represents the illusion we can become caught in, the illusion of the lower self, also known as the small self, or ego. Once caught in this illusion, it can be difficult to wake up and see your way out. If spider webs appear in your dreams, visions, or in your life, spider may be drawing your attention to how you are entangled in the illusions of the material, physical world, which needs to be balanced with the spiritual world. It may be a signal to awaken your spirit and ascend to a higher level of consciousness.

For 20 years I practiced energy healing in a basement office. One year the basement spiders seemed out of control. Each morning when I prepared my work space for the day, I'd have to clear away the new spider webs that were spun overnight. Not only were these webs forming inside the basement, but they were forming outside the basement entrance as well, blocking client access with large webs! I finally realized that spider was delivering a message. That message, along with other messages I received led to writing two books and moving my practice online, decisions that represented a quantum leap in how I work with energy.

    Healing Sacred Symbolism

The turmoil you see in the world and in your life are a sign of the great turning.  We live in a time when the tide is beginning to turn from fear to love; from disempowered to empowered. More and more people are awakening to live from their higher self. And reclaiming our sacred symbols is part of this great awakening.

If an animal crosses your path, or appears in your visions or dreams -- regardless if it is a cute, furry mammal or a scaly, cold-blooded reptile -- investigate the meaning. Get the book Animal Spirit Guides, or Ted Andrews' Animal Speak and look it up. Or meditate on the symbol to find your own meaning.

Each one of us can play a role in the healing of sacred symbolism. Choose animal symbol meanings that empower you, not fearful meanings that disempower you. And share this information to enlighten those who may be frightened.  Let's spread love, light and empowerment!

    3 Tips for Healing Rage

"We want to use anger as a creative force. We want to use it to change, develop, and protect."
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

"Anger and sadness are just as valid as joy and happiness. You can't experience one while suppressing the other. It doesn't work that way. If you shut out anger, you shut out joy and passion too."  ~ The Other Medicine That Really Works

If you are a highly sensitive person, an empath, and/or a lightworker.... likely you are experiencing periods of ascension symptoms as you upgrade to higher frequency energy. This is happening for all of us who feel called to make the world a better place.  Because these upgrades in your energy systems are needed to facilitate and actualize your life purpose.

As we grow, evolve and ascend, one of the lower energy states that can come to the surface to be healed and released is suppressed rage.

Rage is an emotion women are usually uncomfortable with. Women tend to bury their rage under grief. Men tend to bury their grief under anger. To heal rage, let's begin by examining the frequency of anger.

    The Energetic Frequency of Anger

According to the "Scale of Human Consciousness" (page 25 of Awaken Your Greater Health), which was derived from the book Power Vs Force by David Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., anger actually has a higher vibration than sadness. On Hawkins' scale from 0 to 1,000, anger has a vibrational rating of 150, while grief is only 75.  We become empowered when our energetic frequency is 200 or above.

All you need to reach the vibration of empowerment (200) is courage and willingness. It is easier to get to courage and willingness when you are angry than when you are sad, simply because anger is closer in frequency to empowerment than sadness. Although women tend to bury their anger under grief, it is more productive for you to allow your anger to come to the surface. Of course it's best not to stay in anger or hurt others with our anger. But anger can be a brief stopover that you pass through on your journey to empowerment. There are safe and healthy ways to release your anger if you have the courage and willingness to try them.

It is important to express and release suppressed rage because of the negative effects it can have on your health. The state of your health is a reflection of the state of your energy systems. Suppressed emotion of any kind disrupts your energy systems, which disrupts your bodily rhythms. Your body systems and energy systems work in synchrony. Suppressed rage takes body systems out of synchrony with energy systems, and into compromised health.

    The Crescent Moon Bear

To understand the nature of healing rage, let's take a look at the archetypal story of the Crescent Moon Bear, which you can read in Women Who Run With the Wolves. This is a story that appears in varied forms in cultures throughout time and around the world. In some versions of the story, the animal is a tiger, or a fox. Regardless of the type of animal in the story, the central motif does not change. The message is: rage as teacher.

In the story, a woman's husband returns from war traumatized and filled with rage. He refuses her offers of food and connection, and withdraws into the woods. In desperation she consults the village healer, who instructs her to obtain a missing ingredient for a special potion that will help the situation. The woman must make a treacherous climb up a mountain, and bring back a single hair from a black bear with a white crescent moon on its throat.

The woman spends many nights on the mountain, placing bowls of food at the bear's cave entrance. Night after night the bear roars angrily before taking the food. Finally the woman approaches the bear and pleads that he allow her to pluck a single hair from his throat. But when she dashes down the mountain to bring the hair to the healer, the healer promptly throws it into a fire! The healer explains this action by saying, "Remember each step you took to climb the mountain? Remember each step you took to capture the trust of the crescent moon bear? Go home now with your new understandings and proceed in the same ways with your husband."

As in all symbolic stories, as well as our nighttime dreams, every character in the story represents a part of us.  This story does not imply that you should be patient with an abusive person in your life! It is never OK for anyone to treat you abusively.  Likewise, healing rage requires that we not be abusive toward ourselves, because abuse destroys trust. In the story, the husband is not abusive toward the wife. Rather, he refuses to receive anything, including food and love, as he completely withdraws.
    • The husband is the part of us that is traumatized and angry. It is the part that can close off in victimization, holding onto the rage.
    • The wife is our loving, patient and compassionate self.
    • The healer is our inner wise self.
    • The mountain represents the journey of healing, a journey that has ups and downs.
    • The bear is the naturally-wild nature of our authentic self.
    • The crescent moon is the part of the lunar creation cycle when something new is emerging from below the surface, about to be born.
    • The throat of the bear represents the throat energy center, the energetic "avenue of expression" that when opened, facilitates healing.
    • The fire represents that alchemical moment when energy changes states...from disrupted to flowing; from disempowered to empowered.
What doesn't work to heal rage:
    • suppressing rage
    • harboring rage
    • burning others with our rage
What does work to build trust with our angry self:
    • patience
    • compassion
    • acceptance
What harmonizes, empowers and restores our energy flow is a willingness to:
    • express
    • release
    • learn
Let's put these empowering steps into 3 specific actions:

    3 Tips for Healing Rage

    1. Express through Vocalizations.  Vocalizations are a wonderful way to use your voice for healing by opening the throat chakra, or energy center. Connect with your wise, patient, loving and compassionate self. Take a deep breath, open your mouth, and give yourself permission to allow any sound that wants to express to come out. Or you can have a healthy tantrum.

    2. Release through Forgiveness.  A simple but powerful prayer that you can use for forgiveness of yourself or anyone who has hurt you is the Ho' oponpono Prayer.

    3. Learn through Journaling. You can also give your rage a voice by writing about your rage. Connect to your inner healer and give your rage permission to speak. Agree to be the unconditional witness. This means that no matter what your rage has to say, do not judge it. What does it have to tell you? Build trust with the crescent moon bear within you and see what it has to teach you.

These steps can be like climbing a mountain. But through willingness, patience, and consistent use of vocalizations, the forgiveness prayer and journaling, healing can be activated... and a new state of being born.

5 Signs That You Are Experiencing Clairvoyance

"As our sensitivities continue to awaken -- and the safer we feel with them -- the more we learn to expand our intuition to experience a range of wondrous perceptions." ~ Judith Orloff, M.D.,
The Empath's Survival Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People

When I was 16 years-old, I had a series of visions one summer while working on a remodeling project of my family home. I saw my future husband's hair color and eye color, clues about his first and last name, and the month, year and city when and where I would meet him. I also saw the month and year that we would be getting married. I assumed I was daydreaming as my mind wandered while doing boring physical work.

Although I dismissed these visions, I didn't forget about them. So when I did meet my husband three years later at the time and location that I had seen, I was pretty freaked out! When his name and physical characteristics also matched my visions, I thought I might be a witch.

We did indeed marry in the timeline I had seen, nearly 40 years ago. And since then, I've learned not to dismiss my visions as daydreams. I've also learned not to doubt my intuition. And if I am a witch, then I'm a good one! But what I know for sure is that I am intuitive, and one of my intuitive gifts is clairvoyance. I use my gifts every day in my personal life and in my professional life.

    The Third Eye

Clairvoyance is "clear vision," or an inner seeing beyond ordinary perception. This "non-ordinary" sensing occurs through the "third eye," also known as the sixth chakra.  The third eye is a major energy center located in the center of the forehead above the bridge of the nose, as depicted in the picture below. Through this chakra, we gather information from the universal energy field. Information-encoded waves of energy enter and leave the human energy system through each chakra. The third eye is the chakra through which we send and receive intuitive information.

    5 Signs of Clairvoyance

Here are five signs that YOU are experiencing clairvoyance:

         1. Dreams. Clairvoyants often have vivid dreams and daydreams. When you are asleep or in a mindful, meditative state, your right brain is dominant. And that right-brain dominant state facilitates visions. When your third eye is open, you remember the visions in your dreams.

         2. Unusual Vision. Clairvoyants can have unusual experiences of seeing flashes of light, instances of blurry vision, or seeing things in their peripheral vision that aren't there when they turn their head. Clairvoyants can also detect energy fields as colors around people or animals.

         3. Inner "Movies." Individuals with the gift of clairvoyance spontaneously translate spoken word into visions. While listening to verbal descriptions, they can vividly see what is described like a movie playing in their mind's eye. They can also can have accurate inner movies, or visual flashes of insight about the future.

         3. Inner Vision. Clairvoyants can work things out with their inner vision, visualizing a process or designing a project in their mind's eye. They can see each step of the process, as well as the finished project before they've even started. They can visually take things apart and see how they are put together by using their inner vision to problem solve.

         5. Visual Appreciation. Clairvoyant individuals love "feasting" on beauty with their eyes. They enjoy taking in the beauty of art, nature, and other visually-stimulating experiences.

5 Tips to Opening/Clearing Your Third Eye and Enhancing Your Intuition

         1. Keep a Dream Journal. Individuals with the gift of clairvoyance often receive messages in their dreams and have the ability to "lucid" dream. This occurs when we are aware that we are dreaming and can dialogue with dream characters. Here is an article I wrote with 3 tips to understand and work with your dreams.  Or watch the video version

         2. Practice Mindfulness.   It wasn't a coincidence that I had those teenage visions while doing "mindless" physical activity. Many years later I had another profound vision while folding laundry! This is because when we are focused on an activity that doesn't require our intellect, and when we are completely in the moment -- it's not that our mind is "wandering"... it is our mind emptying. When our mind empties of thoughts, it creates space for visions to come in that are beyond our mind. This is a form of meditation called mindfulness.

         3. Use a crystal. Placing a clear quartz crystal on your forehead while meditating or sleeping helps open and clear your third eye chakra. If you are having headaches in the area of your third eye, or increased sensitivity to light, clearing may be needed. A double terminated quartz crystal works best. This is a crystal that is naturally faceted, or "terminated" on both ends.  After using the crystal to clear your third eye, cleanse the crystal by washing it in water with added epsom salts, or place it in sunlight.

         4. Third Eye Breathing. One technique I use to open and clear the third eye is to breath as if I am breathing in and out of my third eye chakra. I demonstrate this is the video below.

         5. Fluoride-Free Toothpaste or Tooth Powder: The third eye chakra is associated with the pineal gland. Scientists have discovered that the pineal gland is a primary area of the body where fluoride accumulates. One of the many detrimental effects of this fluoride accumulation is pineal gland calcification, which deadens intuition. Fluoride is a highly toxic industrial waste product banned in most countries. Countries that do not fluoridate their water do not have higher levels of tooth decay.

Drinking filtered water and using a fluoride-free toothpaste can reverse pineal gland calcification. I can tell you that the headaches in the area of my third eye that I suffered with every day for years stopped when I switched to a fluoride-free toothpaste! 5 Signs that Hearing High-Pitched Frequencies is Spiritual Awakening

"And sometimes when I wrote, I heard a high-pitched ringing noise in my right ear, or it felt full or turned beet red and very hot. This sent me running to an ear, nose, and throat doctor, who said I was fine and had perfect hearing. As it turns out, these ear symptoms can occur when Spirit is nearby. "
~ Kristina Grish, from Theresa Caputo's There's More to Life Than This

Many of the clients in my practice are reporting instances of hearing high-pitched sounds in their ears. I have also noticed more and more posts on social media regarding this bewildering experience.

I have been experiencing high-pitched sounds in my ears for years. During times of peak ascension symptoms, significant planetary transits, and events such as lunar or solar eclipses, high solar winds and geomagnetic storms -- hearing these high-pitched sounds can become a daily occurrence. (you can subscribe at https://HeidiDuPree.com to receive a monthly energy report about these occurrences)

We are each responsible for our own health. So if you have persistent ringing in your ears, it is up to you to determine if  you need to investigate a cause that may require medical intervention. But the type of high-pitched sounds I'm talking about in this article are usually very brief, intermittent, and generally occur in only one ear.

I would like to share some research I have done to better understand this issue.

    The Holographic Ear

We live in a holographic world, meaning that every part contains the whole. This is the basic energy pattern of all life. For example, with a few exceptions, every cell of your body contains your DNA, which is the code for reconstructing your entire body. This holographic pattern is not only found in the human body, but can also be found in our planet, our solar system, and our galaxy. Every "unit" of the fractal contains the patterns of the whole.

The acupuncture points of the ears form the shape of the human body in miniature. This is known as "the little man in the ear."  In The Holographic Universe, author Michael Talbot writes, "Just as every portion of the hologram contains the image of the whole, every portion of the body may also contain the image of the whole." Indeed, the soles of your feet and the palms of your hands contain reflex points for every organ in your body. These reflex points form an outline of the whole body. Healing the whole body by working with these reflex points is the basis of the practice of reflexology.

Talbot goes on to quote psychobiologist Dr. Terry Oleson, "The ear holograph is, logically, connected to the whole body." In other words, through your ears you again access to the whole. When  you have these experiences of high-pitched ringing in your ear, it is an opportunity to work with not only the whole of you, but the whole universe, as you are a part of that whole.

In a sidenote, I want to add that others can gain access to your entire energy system through your ears. Have you ever had an experience where someone "talked your ear off," either in person or on the phone, leaving you feeling completely drained and exhausted? These are people who feel lost and powerless because they are operating from their disempowered small self. Consciously or unconsciously, they use excessive complaining to drain your energy system through your ears while you listen to their verbal drama. This helps them feel more powerful because they are siphoning your energetic power. Although they may feel better after talking to you, you will feel far worse! You can learn how to set boundaries to stop this from happening HERE.

Signs that Hearing High-Pitched Sounds is Spiritual Awakening

Hearing high-pitched sounds is a sign that your intuition and hearing are opening, expanding and awakening.

           1.  Clairaudience. Clairaudience is the ability to hear voices, music or sounds that have no physical source. Hearing high-pitched frequencies is a sign that your clairaudient abilities are opening and expanding. Click HERE to read my article "5 Signs You Are Experiencing Clairaudience."

           2.   Hearing Higher Frequencies.  Humans are literally upgrading as a species. Our ability to hear higher frequencies is expanding. As we evolve, we are gaining the ability to hear sounds that were previously out of range of normal hearing.

           3.   Syncing with the Earth.  In our holographic world, we are a part of the Earth, and the Earth contains parts of us. As the energetic frequencies of the Earth accelerate, our frequencies adapt by syncing with the Earth's frequencies. When this syncing occurs, we experience it as high-pitched sounds in our ears.  Some believe that this syncing includes an upgrade of our DNA. This seems plausible when you consider that we are a fractal of the Earth.

          4.    Spirit Presence. From the book quote at the top of this article, we see that Theresa Caputo's co-writer experienced ear ringing while writing about Spirit! As we evolve and upgrade, our awareness of spiritual presence is enhanced. And the high-pitched sounds are a sign that you are detecting that presence. It's a form of communication that may include energetic downloads that enhance your intuitive abilities and your growth.

3 Tips for Working With Ear Ringing

         1. Create a filter. You have the power to dictate the terms of any spirit interaction by stating something like this out loud: "I give permission for spirit contact that is in my highest good. Any spirit presence that is not in my highest good must leave immediately." And then pay attention to any messages your receive.

         2. Use a crystal. Tuck a double terminated quartz crystal where you might hold a pen or pencil at the top of your ear. This is a crystal that is naturally faceted, or "terminated" on both ends. You will need a crystal smaller than the one pictured below to fit above your ear.  If the sounds in your ear are coming from the lower part of your ear, you can tuck the crystal under your ear lobe and tape in place with some cloth tape. After using the crystal in this manner, cleanse the crystal by washing it in water with added epsom salts, or place it in sunlight.

         3. Self-help craniosacral therapy. There are several self-help craniosacral techniques that balance the ears, jar and TMJ joint. Click HERE for a video demonstration of these techniques, or watch the video below:

5 Signs You Are Experiencing Clairaudience

"When you approach intuitive methods with respect, you become open to hearing from your interior channels."   ~ Caroline Myss, Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential

My ears have been highly sensitive since I was a child. When classroom noises got too loud, I would shut down -- clasping my hands over my ears and cringing. I can remember my 5th grade teacher, Mrs Fox, asking the children to pipe down because, "You are hurting Heidi's ears!" Children with sensory issues are children with sensory gifts.

As an adult, I became aware that this sensitivity was an indication that I am clairaudient.  Clairaudience is the ability to hear voices, music or sounds that have no physical source. I now use my gift of intuitive hearing every day in my personal life and professional life.

Here are 5 categories of signs that YOU are experiencing the gift of clairaudience.

    1.  Voices.  Have you ever thought you heard someone call your name? Or thought you heard someone talking, but no one was there? Have you ever heard someone's thoughts in your mind, as if you were reading their mind? These are all clairaudient experiences.

Clairaudients also tend to talk to themselves, holding both sides of a conversation. But who they are actually having a conversation with is their higher self, or spiritual guidance. Your higher self and spirit are one in the same. Click HERE to learn more about how to distinguish inner voices that are higher self from inner voices that are lower self.

    2.  Music. Have you ever heard a song playing in your mind that seemed random -- a song you may not have heard in years? The lyrics to that song may contain the answer to an issue you are currently dealing with. Or have you ever had a question in your mind, and then a song came on the radio with lyrics that answered your question?

Not only do clairaudients receive messages through music, but they are powerfully moved by music. This is because the frequencies of harmonic music help us access deeper parts of ourselves. Music quiets the logical left brain, which allows the intuitive right brain to become dominant.  The same thing happens when you are asleep. This is why clairaudient musical messages are more likely to come through when you are asleep, or as you are waking up. Clairaudients also tend to be musically-inclined. They can have the ability to play an instrument "by ear," or compose music from what they intuitively hear in their mind.

    3.  Insights.  Not only do clairaudients receive insights for themselves through their intuitive hearing, but they intuitively know just the right thing to say to others, when they are in their higher self. A friend or family member may tell you how helpful and crucial your insightful advice was, years after the fact! Yet you may not even remember giving that advice. You may not remember because intuitive insights flow through you, rather than coming from you.

    4.  Sensitivities. Clairaudients have sensitive hearing, as I described above. Noises that are loud and have chaotic frequencies disrupt the energy system of clairaudients. These disruptive sounds can leave you feeling overwhelmed, irritated, drained and exhausted. They can also create physical symptoms, like a headache. This sensitivity can increase over time, as clairaudient abilities expand. Sounds that previously weren't bothersome can suddenly become intolerable.

Individuals with the gift of clairaudience also need lots of "down" time that includes quiet. Auditorily-sensitive persons especially respond to being outside. The energetic frequencies of the sounds of nature (crickets, birds, breezes, flowing water, etc) are harmonizing, centering, grounding and rejuvenating.

    5.  High-Pitched Squealing Sounds. Have you ever wondered what it means when you hear a high-pitched squealing sound or ringing in your ear? It's a sign that you have clairaudience, and that your gift is opening and expanding. To learn more, read my post: 5 Signs That Hearing High-Pitched Frequencies is Spiritual Awakening.

Individuals who experience clairaudience are often empaths. Click HERE to find out if you are an empath. We are ALL intuitive. Is Intuitive Counseling Right For You?

"Each of us, as we journey through life, has the opportunity to find and to give his or her unique gift. Whether this gift is quiet or small in the eyes of the world does not matter at all -- not at all; it is through the finding and giving that we may come to know the joy that lies at the center of both the dark times and the light."  ~ Helen Luke,  The Way of Woman: Awakening the Perennial Feminine

Are you feeling confused or stuck in life? Are you a highly sensitive or highly creative person who feels misunderstood and seeks to go beyond a mental understanding of your issues? Are you interested in getting to the root of what troubles you through an intuitive approach? Are you willing to connect with deeper aspects of yourself? If so, you may want to try intuitive counseling.

    Intuitive Counseling

Intuitive counseling is a modality that can be found in a traditional psychotherapy practice, an energy healing practice, a life coaching practice, or any practice in which the practitioner accesses intuitive information for the benefit of the client. But how each individual practitioner connects with their intuitive gifts and conducts a session may vary.

Some intuitive counselors make an initial connection with the client through some questions and prayers, and then close their eyes for the remainder of the session while they "channel" intuitive information -- with little or no verbal interaction with the client. Channeling is the act of serving as a conduit through which intuitive information flows through for the highest good. Other intuitive counselors use more verbal interaction. But rather than just "talking about" issues, an intuitive counselor tracks and reads the underlying energy patterns, and channels wisdom and practical steps for the individual to work with their issues.

    Interactive Energy

I used intuitive counseling in a very interactive way. This is because it was during the back and forth verbal dialogue I had with clients that I accessed my intuition. When a client answered my questions, I heard an intuitive response to what they were saying (clairaudience), as well as intuitive guidance for follow-up questions. I also felt a response to their answers in my body (clairsentience), and saw words or images (clairvoyance). This intuitive information showed me the nature of the client's energy patterns and the wounds that formed those patterns.

When I sensed a disruption in their energy flow or a drop in their energetic frequency -- at the moment they spoke about a core limiting belief, I paid close attention to their words and encouraged further exploration in that direction.  I also used energy-based techniques to correct the disruptions in the moment, as well as approaches the client could use on their own after the session.

    Staying In Your Body

I have found that it is a challenge for individuals to stay in their bodies while they are talking. This is a common issue for many Westerners who often function primarily on the mental level. However, this "overly mental" state causes disconnection from the spiritual, emotional and physical. And we need to be connected with all that we are for optimal health and well-being.

An intuitive counselor can detect when a client is not in their body and guide them back to their natural mental-emotional-physical-spiritual oneness. The intuitive counseling session can become the perfect opportunity to practice staying in the body while speaking. And then the client can integrate the experience of being in their body into their everyday life.

    Connecting With Your Gifts

We all have gifts, and a purpose related to those gifts. And our gifts are closely associated with our wounds. Intuitive counseling can help us work with our wounds, and reveal the connection to our gifts. When we lean into the pain of our wounds, we access our deeper selves, our compassion, and our spirit...all the parts of us that we need to manifest our purpose.

    Healing in the Moment

Healing happens in the present moment, so an intuitive counselor does not need much information about a client before the session. There's generally no need for a pre-session consultation, or to fill out a lengthy "client information" form.

In my past work as an intuitive counselor, I preferred to avoid forming any preconceived ideas about a client's issues or what would work best for them.  I knew that all the energy and intuitive information required for their healing process at that moment would unfold in the moment.

How to Ground Yourself Through Earthing

"...rhythmic pulsations of natural energy flowing through and emanating from the surface of the Earth keep the biological machinery of global life running in rhythm and balance -- for everything that lives on the land or in the sea." ~ Clinton Ober, Stephen Sinatra, MD, Martin Zucker, Earthing

Have you ever noticed how wonderful you feel after sleeping on the ground while camping? Or after a barefoot walk? We feel great when we are directly connected to the Earth because it is our natural state of being. Sleeping and living on the ground is the way that all humans used to live. But when the Earth's population began living, sleeping and working in nonconductive buildings, and walking in shoes made of insulating materials, the flow of electric energy between the planet and our bodies became blocked. The health-depleting effects of this separation from the Earth, and the health-restoring effects of reconnecting with the Earth are well-documented.

    Disconnected from the Earth

Ongoing research suggests that our loss of connection to the Earth's flow of surface energy as a result of modern living practices is a significant factor in the widespread development of immune-system issues and inflammation-related conditions such as:
    • food allergies
    • eczema
    • hay fever
    • asthma
    • lupus
    • multiple sclerosis
    • rheumatoid arthritis
    • cardiovascular disease
    • cancer
    • dementia
    • Alzheimer's
Researchers have discovered that spending at least 30 minutes a day with our bare feet touching the ground helps to maintain our energetic frequencies and has dramatic effects on health and well-being. This is because restoring our connection to the Earth's electrical surface energy corrects an "electron deficient" state associated with illness, pain and inflammation.

    Benefits of Earthing

These are some of the benefits that researchers and users of Earthing have reported:
    • decreased inflammation and improvement in inflammation-related conditions
    • improved sleep
    • reduced pain
    • increased energy
    • improved blood pressure and blood flow
    • accelerated healing and recovery
    • improved mental clarity
    • decreased anxiety, stress and depression
    • weight loss
There is speculation that we overeat to ground ourselves by using extra food intake to compensate for being ungrounded. Highly sensitive persons and empaths may especially struggle with maintaining a grounded state. Grounding is essential for sensitive persons to stay balanced and use their gifts for their lightworker purpose.

When a sensitive person is blocked from the Earth's energy through shoes, they may unconsciously turn to heavier foods. Heavier foods slow down digestion, can make us feel more "in our body," and in a sense "hold" us to the ground with extra weight. However, the sense of grounding we seek is actually energetic in nature. Nutrient-dense, high-vibration foods such as raw, organic fruits and vegetables can give us the true grounding we seek. But we also need to correct the Earth-disconnection through Earthing. With a consistent Earthing practice, the need to eat extra calories and heavy foods is eliminated -- which facilitates weight loss.

    The Umbrella Effect

It is our body's natural state of being to conduct the Earth's electrical surface charge through our feet. When that flow of free electrons from the Earth to our bodies is blocked by nonconductive materials - namely shoes with insulated soles - our health is impaired. But the benefits of directly connecting with the Earth are also due to the ability of Earthing to shield us from electropollution in what is called the "umbrella effect."

When we ground ourselves to the Earth through direct contact with our feet, the sea of electropollution created by the man-made electrical power grid is pushed up and away from our bodies. Trees, animals and shoeless humans all reside under this protective umbrella.

    Earthing Practice

The absolute best way to practice Earthing is with your bare feet on the ground near a water source, especially if your feet are making contact with wet ground. Water is highly conductive of the Earth's energy to our bodies. And moving water produces negative ions, which are associated with high energy and high mood.

The second best way to practice Earthing is walking barefoot on wet grass. The third best is walking barefoot on dry ground. If the weather is not warm, you can sit with your feet on the ground and cover your feet with a blanket. Although Earthing works best with bare feet on the ground, I have found wearing natural fiber socks such as cotton or wool does allow some energy transfer. If it's cold, shoes with leather soles will work for Earthing. You can also put your bare hands on the Earth, or on a tree.

     Accessibility

The beauty of grounding through Earthing as an energy healing tool is the accessibility. All you have to do is walk outside and take off your shoes to receive the benefits!
