How to Feel Safe When Your Life Feels Like it is Falling Apart

"Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you, the thing you think you can't survive...it's the thing that makes you better than you used to be." ~ Jennifer Weiner, Fly Away Home

If you are a highly sensitive person, an empath, and/or a lightworker.... likely you are experiencing periods of ascension symptoms as you upgrade to higher frequency energy. This is happening for all of us who feel called to make the world a better place.  Because these upgrades in your energy systems are needed to facilitate and actualize your life purpose.

As we grow and ascend, these energetic upgrades can at times look and feel like your life is falling apart. This can be a relationship falling apart, your financial situation falling apart, your health falling apart, your job falling apart -- or any other life situation falling apart. Or you may feel a generalized sense of disintegration that you can't attribute to any specific life event.

When we experience this, the inclination is often to STOP the pain and disintegration by trying to mentally figure out what is causing it, and try to hold it together. But that only serves to keep us stuck IN the falling apart stage. The way THROUGH the pain and to a sense of safety is by allowing the process to unfold and observing it.

Getting to the Safety of the Higher Self

What do I mean by observing? When you observe, you "watch" what is happening to you from a higher vantage point rather than being IN the falling apart. It is the lower self that is IN the falling apart. It is the higher self that is observing the falling apart. For example, if the lower self is the part that is drowning, the higher self is the part that is in the safety of the boat, observing what is happening to the drowning part -- and throwing a life preserver.

Instead of being the one who is falling apart, become the one who is observing the falling apart. In fact, that's a perfect affirmation. Say it out loud with me:

I am the one observing the falling apart

Here's the most important part of observing: Observe free of any agenda.

This means:
  • Observe free of any expectations.
  • Observe free of any judgment.
  • Observe the falling apart with the same detachment as if you are watching a building demolition from a safe distance.

It is important to shift out of looking at everything that happens to us as something "bad." The messages we receive in our dreams are not "bad." The synchronistic and serendipitous events that happen in our lives are not bad omens and warnings. Everything that is happening in this incredible shift of the ages is a miracle! Shifting out of fear-based eyes and looking through the eyes of someone who recognizes daily miracles will help you see the big picture. Whatever is happening in your life, even if harsh, is exactly what is needed for you to wake up and remember why you are here, and what you came here to do.

I am the one who recognizes miracles big and small happening in my life.

Tips for Higher-Self Observing

Here are some tips to help you get into higher-self mode by observing how this falling apart is affecting you on every level.
  • Physical. What do you notice about your body? Is it tense? Where is it tense? Can you take a deep breath?
  • Mental. What do you notice about your thoughts? Are they negative? Are they spinning?
  • Emotional. What do you notice about your emotions? Are you feeling grief, anger, fear or shame? Notice the intensity. Breathe into that emotion for several minutes and notice if it changes.
  • Spiritual.  What do you notice about your spiritual state? Can you feel a sense of connection and support? Or do you feel isolated and alone?
By observing your state of being, you shift to the higher-self position where support, insights and solutions flow. By observing, you are in a position to help yourself by becoming your own lifeline. By observing the falling apart, you allow the process to unfold. You allow what no longer serves your highest good to dissolve and crumble. And then the Phoenix can rise from the ashes.

3 Steps to Beginning Anew

"Life does not accommodate you; it shatters you. Every seed destroys its container, or else there would be no fruition." ~ Florida Scott-Maxwell, The Measure of My Days

If you are a highly sensitive person, an empath, a lightworker.... likely you are experiencing periods of ascension symptoms as you upgrade to higher frequency energy. This is happening for all of us who feel called to make the world a better place.  Because these upgrades in your energy systems are needed to facilitate and actualize your life purpose.

As we grow, evolve and ascend, we experience a series of endings and beginnings in our lives as lower energy states of being, thinking and believing that no longer serve us are cleared from our energy systems.

When you are in the middle of these cycles, it can be a confusing and emotional time. You may wonder how to get "out of it" or make the turmoil stop. The way to "make it stop" is to let go. Because ending is actually the way to begin anew.

In order for a new tree to begin, the nut that contains the seed must come to an end. In order for an infant to have life, a pregnancy has to come to an end. In order for a new career to begin, a job must end. In order to take a deep breathe, you must let go of the air in your lungs first to make room for air to come in. In order for anything new to begin in your life, something must end.

The way to begin anew is to END.

How to Begin Anew

Life is not linear. It is more like a spiral. Any given end point on the spiral is immediately followed by a beginning point on the spiral. For example, the moment a year ends is immediately followed by the moment a year begins. When you choose to end something in your life, you CREATE a beginning.

If you feel stuck in the turmoil and unable to move forward, it's because something is in the way. You must let go of what is not working in your life in order to begin anew. To ascend to a higher level of consciousness, you have to let go of lower vibration "garbage."

Here are 3 steps to guide you in beginning anew:

1. Meditate. Spend a few moments in quiet with your eyes closed. Let go of all self-judgment and give yourself permission to receive an insight, no matter what it is. If you had the ability to intuitively know what needs to end, what would you guess it to be? Trust the answer.

2. Let Go. Letting go requires that you trust in the process that a beginning always follows an ending, and release the fear. Here are 3 tips to letting go.  Deep breathe slowly for ten minutes, starting with an exhale. Focus on emptying your lungs completely before you take each slow, deep breath.

3. Gratitude. The energy of gratitude has astonishingly positive effects on your energy systems! Feeling gratitude for what is ending brings you out of the turmoil and into harmony.

How to Heal Shame and Work with Your Shadow

"The problem of secret stories surrounded by shame is that they cut a woman off from her instinctive nature.  ...draw out the secret, for it makes a wound that will not heal until the matter is given words and witness." ~  Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

"The body can encapsulate and isolate the effects of trauma for years, but doing so requires a lot of energy." ~ The Other Medicine That Really Works

If you are a highly sensitive person, an empath, and/or a lightworker.... likely you are experiencing ascension symptoms as you upgrade to higher frequency energy. This is happening to all of us who feel called to make the world a better place.  Because these upgrades in your energy systems facilitate and actualize your life purpose.

As we grow, evolve and ascend, we can become aware of what we have repressed and hidden in the shadow, namely that which causes us to feel shame.

The Energetic Frequency of Shame

According to the "Scale of Human Consciousness" (page 25 of Awaken Your Greater Health), which was derived from Power Vs Force by David Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D.,  shame has the lowest vibration of all consciousness states. On a scale of 0 to 1,000, with 200 and above being within the frequency of empowerment, shame vibrates at 20! It is a vibration that is incompatible with health. Some of the sickest clients I have ever worked with vibrated predominantly in shame.

The feeling of being at such a low frequency is just plain awful.  It makes us feel bad about ourselves and broken. It can make us feel raw, vulnerable, exposed, and angry. It can make us want to crawl in a hole. The feeling of shame is almost unbearable. And we will do just about anything to avoid it.

To keep from feeling it, we will hide it from our consciousness and encapsulate it in an energy "cyst." But keeping the energy of shame encapsulated is exhausting. And it makes it difficult to heal. Because when it is hidden from our consciousness, it becomes a secret.

Keeping a secret hidden takes a toll. The energy cyst creates energetic disruption, like a boulder in the middle of a stream disrupts the flow of water. Even if we are unaware of what is in the shadow, we feel the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual symptoms of energetic disruption:
  • feeling tired or exhausted
  • feeing disconnected and alone
  • pain or discomfort
  • tension or tightness
  • Feeling triggered with negative emotions like anxiety, anger, sadness
  • repetitive negative thoughts
  • health issues
The Woman with Hair of Gold

To understand the nature of healing shame, let's take a look at the archetypal story of the The Woman with Hair of Gold, which you can read in Women Who Run With the Wolves. This is a story of a woman with hair like spun gold who lived alone in the woods. When a local brute tried to coerce her into marriage, she appeased him by giving him some of her hair. But when he tried to use the hair as currency in the marketplace, the locals ridiculed him. In a rage, the man killed the woman and buried her body near a river.

Although no one noticed her passing, her hair continued to grow even after her death. It came up through the ground in beautiful spiraling curls, eventually creating a field of golden reeds. The shepherds cut the reeds, making them into flutes. With the flutes they sang about the woman with the golden hair who was murdered and buried there. And because they sang the truth, her murderer was brought to justice and safety was restored.

As in all symbolic stories, a well as our nighttime dreams, every aspect of the story represents a part of us:
    • The marketplace locals represent the situations that trigger a feeling of shame.
    • The brute is the part of us that feels rage for being shamed.
    • The hair represents our spirit, the part that can never die. Even when we have been silenced and our energy disrupted, our spirit remains untouched at our core.
    • The appeasement represents how we barter our life force by giving away our energy to people please
    • The murder represents how we kill off our vitality when we hide and bury our shame. It also symbolizes the silencing of ourselves and the divine feminine.
    • The absence of inquiry after the woman's disappearance represents our unconsciousness in hiding our secret shame. When we bury our shame, it becomes hidden from our consciousness and we are unaware of its existence. Therefore we do not inquire about it.
    • The lack of inquiry about the woman's disappearance also represents the devaluing of the divine feminine. It symbolizes the diminishment and marginalization of women in a society where they are seen as expendable.  We internalize this by devaluing ourselves.
    • The hair turning into reeds represents our transformation from one state of being to another.
    • The reeds becoming flutes represent the part of us that transforms and becomes a vehicle for expression. The reeds becoming flutes are the part of us that has a voice to speak the truth.
    • The justice represents the restoration of our balance and harmony when the shameful secret is voiced.

    Shadow Work

To begin to heal shame, we need to raise our energetic frequency from 20 to 200. On the Scale of Human Consciousness, 200 represents the threshold of empowerment. It is also the frequency of courage. To heal, we need to find the courage to shine a light on the hidden shame and look at it. To heal we need the courage to express what we find in the shadow.  In the shadow is what we have disowned, what we believe is unacceptable...what we have hidden in the darkness. We know it’s there because of the triggers.

Upon finding courage to look below the surface at what is causing the triggers, we can take ourselves to even higher energetic frequencies by unconditionally loving and accepting ourselves.  On the Scale of Human Consciousness, acceptance has a frequency of 350, and love has a frequency of 500.

You do NOT have to accept the shame, or the circumstances surrounding the shame. Simply accept YOU. You are not your shame. You are an acceptable person experiencing unacceptable shame. This is a very important distinction. By accepting YOU, even in a state of shame, you raise your energetic frequency from 20 to 350! By loving YOU, even in a state of shame, you raise your energetic frequency from 20 to 500!

    Healing Affirmations

Here are some healing affirmations to say out loud to help you heal shame and what is in your shadow.

Even though I am experiencing shame, I have the courage to take a deep breathe and voice what I'm ashamed about, even if only to myself.

Even though I find my shame and the circumstances around the shame unacceptable,  I am always an acceptable person.

Even though I am experiencing shame, I send unconditional love to the part of me that is feeling ashamed.

    3 Tips for Healing Rage

"We want to use anger as a creative force. We want to use it to change, develop, and protect."
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

"Anger and sadness are just as valid as joy and happiness. You can't experience one while suppressing the other. It doesn't work that way. If you shut out anger, you shut out joy and passion too."  ~ The Other Medicine That Really Works

As we grow, evolve and ascend, one of the lower energy states that can come to the surface to be healed and released is suppressed rage.

Rage is an emotion women are usually uncomfortable with. Women tend to bury their rage under grief. Men tend to bury their grief under anger. To heal rage, let's begin by examining the frequency of anger.

    The Energetic Frequency of Anger

According to the "Scale of Human Consciousness" (page 25 of Awaken Your Greater Health), which was derived from the book Power Vs Force by David Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., anger actually has a higher vibration than sadness. On Hawkins' scale from 0 to 1,000, anger has a vibrational rating of 150, while grief is only 75.  We become empowered when our energetic frequency is 200 or above.

All you need to reach the vibration of empowerment (200) is courage and willingness. It is easier to get to courage and willingness when you are angry than when you are sad, simply because anger is closer in frequency to empowerment than sadness. Although women tend to bury their anger under grief, it is more productive for you to allow your anger to come to the surface. Of course it's best not to stay in anger or hurt others with our anger. But anger can be a brief stopover that you pass through on your journey to empowerment. There are safe and healthy ways to release your anger if you have the courage and willingness to try them.

It is important to express and release suppressed rage because of the negative effects it can have on your health. The state of your health is a reflection of the state of your energy systems. Suppressed emotion of any kind disrupts your energy systems, which disrupts your bodily rhythms. Your body systems and energy systems work in synchrony. Suppressed rage takes body systems out of synchrony with energy systems, and into compromised health.

    The Crescent Moon Bear

To understand the nature of healing rage, let's take a look at the archetypal story of the Crescent Moon Bear, which you can read in Women Who Run With the Wolves. This is a story that appears in varied forms in cultures throughout time and around the world. In some versions of the story, the animal is a tiger, or a fox. Regardless of the type of animal in the story, the central motif does not change. The message is: rage as teacher.

In the story, a woman's husband returns from war traumatized and filled with rage. He refuses her offers of food and connection, and withdraws into the woods. In desperation she consults the village healer, who instructs her to obtain a missing ingredient for a special potion that will help the situation. The woman must make a treacherous climb up a mountain, and bring back a single hair from a black bear with a white crescent moon on its throat.

The woman spends many nights on the mountain, placing bowls of food at the bear's cave entrance. Night after night the bear roars angrily before taking the food. Finally the woman approaches the bear and pleads that he allow her to pluck a single hair from his throat. But when she dashes down the mountain to bring the hair to the healer, the healer promptly throws it into a fire! The healer explains this action by saying, "Remember each step you took to climb the mountain? Remember each step you took to capture the trust of the crescent moon bear? Go home now with your new understandings and proceed in the same ways with your husband."

As in all symbolic stories, as well as our nighttime dreams, every character in the story represents a part of us.  This story does not imply that you should be patient with an abusive person in your life! It is never OK for anyone to treat you abusively.  Likewise, healing rage requires that we not be abusive toward ourselves, because abuse destroys trust. In the story, the husband is not abusive toward the wife. Rather, he refuses to receive anything, including food and love, as he completely withdraws.
    • The husband is the part of us that is traumatized and angry. It is the part that can close off in victimization, holding onto the rage.
    • The wife is our loving, patient and compassionate self.
    • The healer is our inner wise self.
    • The mountain represents the journey of healing, a journey that has ups and downs.
    • The bear is the naturally-wild nature of our authentic self.
    • The crescent moon is the part of the lunar creation cycle when something new is emerging from below the surface, about to be born.
    • The throat of the bear represents the throat energy center, the energetic "avenue of expression" that when opened, facilitates healing.
    • The fire represents that alchemical moment when energy changes states...from disrupted to flowing; from disempowered to empowered.
What doesn't work to heal rage:
    • suppressing rage
    • harboring rage
    • burning others with our rage
What does work to build trust with our angry self:
    • patience
    • compassion
    • acceptance
What harmonizes, empowers and restores our energy flow is a willingness to:
    • express
    • release
    • learn
Let's put these empowering steps into 3 specific actions:

    3 Tips for Healing Rage

    1. Express through Vocalizations.  Vocalizations are a wonderful way to use your voice for healing by opening the throat chakra, or energy center. Connect with your wise, patient, loving and compassionate self. Take a deep breath, open your mouth, and give yourself permission to allow any sound that wants to express to come out. Or you can have a healthy tantrum.

    2. Release through Forgiveness.  A simple but powerful prayer that you can use for forgiveness of yourself or anyone who has hurt you is the Ho' oponpono Prayer.

    3. Learn through Journaling. You can also give your rage a voice by writing about your rage. Connect to your inner healer and give your rage permission to speak. Agree to be the unconditional witness. This means that no matter what your rage has to say, do not judge it. What does it have to tell you? Build trust with the crescent moon bear within you and see what it has to teach you.

These steps can be like climbing a mountain. But through willingness, patience, and consistent use of vocalizations, the forgiveness prayer and journaling, healing can be activated... and a new state of being born.

5 Signs that Hearing High-Pitched Frequencies is Spiritual Awakening

"And sometimes when I wrote, I heard a high-pitched ringing noise in my right ear, or it felt full or turned beet red and very hot. This sent me running to an ear, nose, and throat doctor, who said I was fine and had perfect hearing. As it turns out, these ear symptoms can occur when Spirit is nearby. "
~ Kristina Grish, from Theresa Caputo's There's More to Life Than This

Many of the clients in my practice are reporting instances of hearing high-pitched sounds in their ears. I have also noticed more and more posts on social media regarding this bewildering experience.

I have been experiencing high-pitched sounds in my ears for years. During times of peak ascension symptoms, significant planetary transits, and events such as lunar or solar eclipses, high solar winds and geomagnetic storms -- hearing these high-pitched sounds can become a daily occurrence. (you can subscribe at https://HeidiDuPree.com to receive a monthly energy report about these occurrences)

We are each responsible for our own health. So if you have persistent ringing in your ears, it is up to you to determine if  you need to investigate a cause that may require medical intervention. But the type of high-pitched sounds I'm talking about in this article are usually very brief, intermittent, and generally occur in only one ear.

I would like to share some research I have done to better understand this issue.

    The Holographic Ear

We live in a holographic world, meaning that every part contains the whole. This is the basic energy pattern of all life. For example, with a few exceptions, every cell of your body contains your DNA, which is the code for reconstructing your entire body. This holographic pattern is not only found in the human body, but can also be found in our planet, our solar system, and our galaxy. Every "unit" of the fractal contains the patterns of the whole.

The acupuncture points of the ears form the shape of the human body in miniature. This is known as "the little man in the ear."  In The Holographic Universe, author Michael Talbot writes, "Just as every portion of the hologram contains the image of the whole, every portion of the body may also contain the image of the whole." Indeed, the soles of your feet and the palms of your hands contain reflex points for every organ in your body. These reflex points form an outline of the whole body. Healing the whole body by working with these reflex points is the basis of the practice of reflexology.

Talbot goes on to quote psychobiologist Dr. Terry Oleson, "The ear holograph is, logically, connected to the whole body." In other words, through your ears you again access to the whole. When  you have these experiences of high-pitched ringing in your ear, it is an opportunity to work with not only the whole of you, but the whole universe, as you are a part of that whole.

In a sidenote, I want to add that others can gain access to your entire energy system through your ears. Have you ever had an experience where someone "talked your ear off," either in person or on the phone, leaving you feeling completely drained and exhausted? These are people who feel lost and powerless because they are operating from their disempowered small self. Consciously or unconsciously, they use excessive complaining to drain your energy system through your ears while you listen to their verbal drama. This helps them feel more powerful because they are siphoning your energetic power. Although they may feel better after talking to you, you will feel far worse! You can learn how to set boundaries to stop this from happening HERE.

Signs that Hearing High-Pitched Sounds is Spiritual Awakening

Hearing high-pitched sounds is a sign that your intuition and hearing are opening, expanding and awakening.

           1.  Clairaudience. Clairaudience is the ability to hear voices, music or sounds that have no physical source. Hearing high-pitched frequencies is a sign that your clairaudient abilities are opening and expanding. Click HERE to read my article "5 Signs You Are Experiencing Clairaudience."

           2.   Hearing Higher Frequencies.  Humans are literally upgrading as a species. Our ability to hear higher frequencies is expanding. As we evolve, we are gaining the ability to hear sounds that were previously out of range of normal hearing.

           3.   Syncing with the Earth.  In our holographic world, we are a part of the Earth, and the Earth contains parts of us. As the energetic frequencies of the Earth accelerate, our frequencies adapt by syncing with the Earth's frequencies. When this syncing occurs, we experience it as high-pitched sounds in our ears.  Some believe that this syncing includes an upgrade of our DNA. This seems plausible when you consider that we are a fractal of the Earth.

          4.    Spirit Presence. From the book quote at the top of this article, we see that Theresa Caputo's co-writer experienced ear ringing while writing about Spirit! As we evolve and upgrade, our awareness of spiritual presence is enhanced. And the high-pitched sounds are a sign that you are detecting that presence. It's a form of communication that may include energetic downloads that enhance your intuitive abilities and your growth.

3 Tips for Working With Ear Ringing

         1. Create a filter. You have the power to dictate the terms of any spirit interaction by stating something like this out loud: "I give permission for spirit contact that is in my highest good. Any spirit presence that is not in my highest good must leave immediately." And then pay attention to any messages your receive.

         2. Use a crystal. Tuck a double terminated quartz crystal where you might hold a pen or pencil at the top of your ear. This is a crystal that is naturally faceted, or "terminated" on both ends. You will need a crystal smaller than the one pictured below to fit above your ear.  If the sounds in your ear are coming from the lower part of your ear, you can tuck the crystal under your ear lobe and tape in place with some cloth tape. After using the crystal in this manner, cleanse the crystal by washing it in water with added epsom salts, or place it in sunlight.

         3. Self-help craniosacral therapy. There are several self-help craniosacral techniques that balance the ears, jar and TMJ joint. Click HERE for a video demonstration of these techniques, or watch the video below:

3 Signs That You Are a Lightworker

"A lightworker is anyone who devotes their life to being a bright life in the world."
~ Rebecca Campbell, Light is the New Black

You may have heard the terms HSP (highly sensitive person), empath, and lightworker and wondered what they mean. Although individuals often have these three traits together, they each mean something different. An HSP is usually an introvert, and is highly sensitive to sensory stimuli. An empath, though also sensitive, can be either an introvert or an extrovert, and has the distinction of absorbing the negative emotions of others.

Lightworkers are often empathic, but not all empaths are lightworkers. The difference is this: An empath is sensitive to the emotions of others, and feel those emotions as if they were their own, while a lightworker is sensitive to energies and feels a calling to heal. Most empaths have a lightworker life purpose that involves healing others, but not all.

Here are 3 distinct signs common to lightworkers:

    1. Loss and upheaval.  Many lightworkers have experienced harsh childhoods, challenging life circumstances and abusive experiences that serve as a catalyst for their own awakening, ascension and healing. This upheaval can involve the loss of a job, loss of a relationship, loss of one's health, or some other life crisis.

    2. Sensitive to energies.  Lightworkers often have psychic or intuitive experiences with instances of premonition. These can come in the form of visions (clairvoyance), auditory experiences (clairaudience), gut feelings (clairsentience), or "knowings" (claircognizance). These experiences often include instances of serendipity, synchronicity and "coincidences." Consciously or not, lightworkers can read and sense energy.

    3. Affinity for healing. Lightworkers feel a calling to heal, whether that is healing of social or environmental problems, healing of animals, or healing of people. This can take the form of hands on healing, writing, teaching, counseling, creating music or art, or engaging in advocacy. Whether this affinity for healing is through the use of the hands, words,  voice, or the energy imbued in a work of art or a piece of music -- if it is done with the intention of healing for the highest good, it becomes a force for healing. This calling to heal begins with self healing, because in order for a lightworker to help others heal, they must heal themselves first.

We live in an upside-down world where most people operate from the smallest, most fearful part of themselves, rather than their true source of power, health and happiness - their higher self. Lightworkers are here to heal this imbalance in the world. But when you are completely surrounded by people who value material over spiritual, it's easy to get lost and forget your life mission.  Lightworkers need to come together to support one another.

4 Signs That Your Anxiety Isn't Yours

"Anxiety is conductive. It wants to travel from one person to another person." ~ Mike Monteiro, Design is a Job

If you are a highly sensitive person, likely you experience anxiety.  But sometimes the anxiety you feel isn't even yours!  How is that possible?  Anxiety can be "contagious."  Just as anxious dogs have anxious owners, and anxious children often have anxious parents, anxiety can be "catching" - especially if you are empathic.

Empathic persons are like sponges who can take on anxiety from situations and people they don't even have direct contact with.  It can happen just by feeling sorry for someone, talking to them on the phone, or watching events on the news that are impacting people in a negative way.  To find out if you are an empath, click HERE.

If can be difficult to recognize when anxiety isn't yours, given that it feels the same as your own! But there are signs that can help you determine the difference.

         When anxiety isn't yours:
    1. You feel a generalized sense of anxiety, but can't identify the cause.
    2. Your anxiety seems out of proportion to what you are currently experiencing in your life.
    3. You go to sleep feeling peaceful but wake up shaking and anxious
    4. You become suddenly anxious around certain people

Let's take a closer look at these signs.

    Generalized, Out-of-Proportion Anxiety

Some empathic people pick up on anxiety related to current events, especially when large numbers of people are having a fearful response. Highly sensitive people can feel general unrest and angst amongst the population, which can make them feel uneasy and unsettled without understanding why.

If people can have that much of a negative influence on you, just imagine the positive influence you can have on them if you choose an empowered response!  In Power Vs Force, David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D estimated that one empowered person could counterbalance the energy of 90,000 disempowered individuals!

Before I get into more about that,  let's look at the other signs that anxiety isn't yours.

    Nighttime Anxiety

Some of the clients I have worked with have told me they sometimes awake during the night with their body shaking and their heart racing.  I've had this experience as well.  It can be ascension symptoms (more about that HERE)  Or it may be that they have absorbed the anxiety of others.  When we are asleep, we are in a right brain dominant state that gives us greater access to the collective consciousness, and collective emotional states, including anxiety.

I have clients who become anxious during the night while sleeping at hotels, because they are unconsciously tapping into the anxiety of others asleep in the building. Or they may have anxiety at home, picking it up from family members asleep in other rooms, or in the same room.

    Anxiety Around Certain People

If you feel anxious when you are around certain people, and then the anxiety dissipates when you are away from them, this is a sign that the anxiety you feel is theirs, not yours.  You can especially feel the difference if you are away from them for a period of time,  as this time apart allows their anxiety to dissipate from your system.  When the anxiety reappears again with contact with this person - whether that is in-person contact, phone contact, or thought contact -  it becomes clear that it's not yours.

This effect can happen with people you don't even know.  For example, you get on an elevator with a stranger and suddenly feel anxious.  When you get off the elevator, the anxiety may linger for a while, but eventually dissipates.

    An Empowered Response

Anxiety that isn't yours will eventually clear on its own.  But you can move it along faster, and help others in the process!  It's important to understand that it doesn't serve others to take on their anxiety. Doing so can become debilitating and interfere with you actualizing your life purpose. And if you are a empathic person, you likely have a very important lightworker life purpose!

Now that you know the signs that your anxiety isn't yours, here's how you can serve others in a way that is in your highest good and theirs. By saying this powerful affirmation:

"If it is in the best interests of ______, please remove their fear and suffering. If it is in my highest good, please clear all my energy centers, meridians and energy field of anything dark, heavy, toxic or disruptive that doesn't serve me and doesn't belong to me. Please cut any dysfunctional cords between me and _____ that cause me to take on their anxiety, and fill us both with self-knowledge, self-love, divine light and spiritual power."

Then take a deep breath and let it go.

What to Expect When You're Ascending

"Each and every person who lives from their higher self raises the consciousness of the planet."
~ Heidi DuPree, Awaken Your Greater Health

"When you're born, you get a kind of amnesia. One of the things we're doing on earth is remembering what we forgot."  ~ The Afterlife of Billy Fingers

I have previously written a post about ascension symptoms, which occur during the process of "upgrading" to a higher vibrational frequency and a higher state of consciousness. You can read that article HERE.  But you may wonder what to expect once you've integrated that upgrade, and what it means to be at a higher level of consciousness. Because when you are going through a tumultuous ascension upgrade, it helps to know what awaits you on the other side!

Here is an excerpt from the award-winning Awaken Your Greater Health on what to expect as you ascend.

You may experience a decrease or cessation altogether of the following:
    • triggers
    • worrying
    • self-sacrificing
    • negativity
    • resistance
    • judgment and criticism of self and others
    • doubt, shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger and pride
    • fixing, care-taking, tricking, converting, impressing, cheerleading, rescuing, projecting and people-pleasing
You may experience an increase in the following:
    • sense of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance
    • expression of health
    • ability to love and accept all aspects of self and others
    • ability to see divinity in others and all situations
    • recognition of signs and messages from spirit
    • positive interpretations of life experiences
    • sense of fulfillment, effectiveness and efficiency
    • courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, reasonableness, love, joy, peace enlightenment and grace
You may experience a shift in the following that can change your identity and how you see yourself:
    • from reactive to proactive
    • from rigid and restricted, to expansiveness in body, mind and emotions.
    • from outside-in orientation to inside-out
    • from living in the past and projecting onto the future to being in the moment
    • from lower-self authority over self to self-governance by spirit authority
    • from materialism to spiritualism
    • from seeing and experiencing life as lacking to experiencing life as unlimited
    • from surface orientation to deeper meaning of life
    • from victim to creator, from persecutor to challenger, and from rescuer to facilitator
    • from surviving to thriving
The similarity between the title of this post and the title of the book What to Expect When You're Expecting is no accident. Because as pregnancy is an expectation of birth, ascension is an expectation of rebirth, a rebirth to a higher state of being.  If you are experiencing ascension symptoms, then you have chosen on a soul level to ascend and rebirth. And like birth, ascension can come in waves and involve uncomfortable "labor."

Ascension is an incremental process that begins with an initial soul-level awakening. Awakening is waking up from illusions and false beliefs by remembering who we truly are - spiritual beings of energy and love! The awakening and ascension process involves a series of adjustments to higher vibrational frequencies. The increases, decreases and shifts outlined in this article give you an idea of what awaits you on the other side of each ascension "upgrade."  If you would like to read more about the experience of being in your higher self, click HERE.

    How to Reset Your Life

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate."  ~ Oprah Winfrey, What I Know For Sure

In September 2016 I took a week off from work and designed a much needed "retreat" for myself, scheduling activities each day that would contribute to my growth.  These activities included communing with nature, meaningful social connections, activities from a self development online course I was taking, and meeting with both my healer and my coach by Skype. I playfully named my retreat "Heidipalooza" and embraced each day with zeal.

It was no coincidence that I scheduled this retreat to coincide with a full moon lunar eclipse and the fall equinox predicted to bring in another wave of ascension-level energies. (For more about ascension, click HERE. ) I knew I would need some space in my life to process and integrate what was to come.  But I had no idea how profound the experience would be.  Because by the end of the week, I experienced a complete reset of the way I work in the world-- from in-person, to online...from local, to global. This is no small thing, considering I have been working pretty much the same way in the same room for over 20 years.

I've written extensively about endings and beginnings in my award-winning books, and I've experienced them in my life.  But nothing prepared me for how dramatic this change would be.

    What is a Reset?

A reset is like an inner earthquake. It may seem that an earthquake is a single, isolated event. But an earthquake is the end result of many years of built-up tension along a fault line. The release of that tension produces the event. And once the dust settles from an earthquake, we can usually see that the ground has repositioned. It is the same for an inner earthquake. Immediately after a life reset, we may find our worldview repositioned. That shift will likely include changes in our mental and spiritual beliefs, a shift in our emotional state, and bodily changes - all for your highest good.

In physics a reset like I experienced is known as a "quantum jump" - a sudden leap from one state to another without any discernible process in between. One day I worked the same way I always have, and the next day I no longer had any desire to work that way. A quantum leap is by its nature unpredictable and unexpected. But when it happens there are some things you can expect.

After a reset you may experience the following:

    • Change in viewpoint. Overnight, you may see difficult situations in your life in a whole new light.  Solutions to problems that you couldn't solve can seem suddenly obvious.
    • More in the present moment. You may become less preoccupied with the past and the future and find yourself more in the present moment.
    • Less judgmental and critical of self and others. Behaviors of others that were previously intolerable to you may no longer bother you as you become disengaged from drama and more accepting of yourself and others.
    • Health. You may experience a shift in your health with sudden positive changes in your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual states. Change is never isolated to one aspect of our life. We are mental, spiritual, physical and emotional beings and change affects every level. Along with my work reset, I also experienced a sudden positive shift in my eating habits -- and that's not a coincidence!
    • Irreversible. When you experience a reset, it will feel like you can't go back to your previous state - even if you wanted to.  The change is "one-way."
    • Push-back. Change creates discomfort in those you are connected to. This is understandable and requires a compassionate response, not guilt that you have changed!
    Create Your Own Retreat

Although I was largely unaware of it, I was apparently ready for a reset of my work life. Because these inner shifts that product dramatic outer change do not happen unless we are ready - whether we are aware of that readiness or not. In the same vein, you can't control a reset or decide when it will occur. But what you can do is create space in your life for growth, engage in healing activities... and let go of the outcome.

You don't have to take a week off from work to create a retreat. The important thing is to seek out activities that contribute to your growth. These activities will help you move toward the changes you want in your life.
    • Get help. See a professional who specializes in personal growth and healing, such as a healer or a life coach.
    • Detox. Drink more water and eliminate processed food from your diet.  Eat more raw food.
    • Eliminate Clutter. Spend some time clearing clutter out of your home environment.
    • Unplug. Try unplugging from social media and disengaging from any social interactions that are negative.
    • Plug in.  Choose to interact with positive people who raise your spirits and your energy. Spend time in nature, especially with your shoes off to ground with the Earth. Deep breathe for ten minutes at a time. Meditate.
    Celebrate Life!

I started my Heidipalooza in the spirit of rejuvenation. The change it facilitated has not been easy for me or the people I am connected to. But life transitions do not have to be serious or heavy either. Change, no matter how uncomfortable, can be fun if we approach it as such. I choose to celebrate all the changes in my life, big and small!

    How to Heal Health Anxiety

"Don't believe every worried thought you have. Worried thoughts are notoriously inaccurate."
~ Renee Jain, Tapping for Zapping Anxiety Away

Do you have anxiety about your health? Do you tend to view your bodily symptoms as a sign of a serious or life-threatening issue? Do you worry excessively about the state of your health? I have worked with many individuals who have anxiety about their health. This type of anxiety can be caused by:
    • Being raised in a household with a caregiver who has anxiety about their health. When this behavior is modeled to us in our developing years, we can assimilate it. Sometimes we get more attention when we have health issues and then subsequently develop a belief that being sick gets you love. Having health issues then have a hidden agenda of receiving love.
    • Trauma from health issues. When you have experienced a serious or life-threatening illness, or a health issue that severely impacted your quality of life, you can become traumatized by the experience. Once your sense of safety has felt threatened, you may unconsciously become hypervigilant about your health symptoms in order to feel safe. But being hypervigilant doesn't actually make you safe. It just creates more anxiety.
    • Unresolved past life issues about health. Not everyone who was exposed to anxiety about health during childhood, or who has experienced a debilitating health issue will develop anxiety about their health. Sometimes we come into this life with unresolved issues from the past. This creates a tendency to become very anxious when health issue symptoms do appear.

    The Misplaced Focus

To the person who has anxiety about their health, their primary focus is on their symptoms. The anxious person believes that they can relieve the anxiety by repeatedly getting reassurance from a source outside themselves that their symptom is not life-threatening. Instead of relying on their own instincts and intuition, they may frequent medical practices, urgent care centers and nurse advice lines for reassurance. However, the relief they feel upon being reassured that there is nothing seriously wrong with them is temporary. Because the reassurance does not alleviate the root cause of the anxiety.

The primary issue for a person with health anxiety is the anxiety itself, not the health symptom. Instead of looking for reassurance from an outside source, the person with anxiety is best served by looking for sources of information that will help them heal from the inside out.  Because true healing always occurs from the inside out, not from the outside in.  Being repeatedly reassured from exterior sources that your health is normal doesn't actually help you heal.  Healing happens when we can reassure ourselves from the inside by connecting with our instincts and intuition.

    Internet Issues

Individuals with health anxiety tend to look up their symptoms on the internet.  However, this can just increase their anxiety -- because no matter what your symptom is, there will always be a source on the internet that lists that symptom as a potential sign of serious illness! A person with anxiety would be better served by searching the internet for sources of information that heal their anxiety, rather than searching for their specific symptom. Information that initiates healing from within addresses the source of the issue. This will relieve the anxiety and create peace and calmness.  In a state of peace you can then connect with your instincts and intuition about the best course of action for your health.

    Sources of Healing

Ascension. What appears to be a health issue symptom can actually be a sign of healing, growth, and ascension. You can read more about that here.

EFT.  In my experience, I have found EFT to be the most effective technique to relieve anxiety.  A search on YouTube for EFT for health anxiety will yield a number of resources. Just tap along with the person doing the video.

The Violet Flame. The Violet Flame is a powerful healing tool available to everyone. You can read my article on how to use the violet flame to clear fear here.

Energy Healing. The state of your health is a reflection of the state of your energy. Energy healing is any energy-based modality that has a therapeutic effect on the state of your energy.
